ESF & The Skills Service Funding Project

Check your Eligibility for ESF Funding

Please check to see if you are eligible for funding from the European Social Fund - see Business Eligibility & Delegate Eligibility below.  

Business Eligibility

To be eligible for 40% ESF funding towards the cost of training the business must be able to say Yes to all of the following criteria.

1/  Be an SME based within the Leeds City Region. This includes the following districts -

  • Bradford
  • Calderdale
  • Craven
  • Harrogate
  • Kirklees
  • Leeds
  • Selby
  • Wakefield
  • York

You can use this postcode checker to confirm

2/ You must be a Private Limited Company, Partnership or LLPs, Sole Proprietor, Self Employed or Registered Charity.

3/ You must employ fewer than 250 full time equivalent staff and have an annual turnover not exceeding €50 million(£34M approx.)

4/ If self-employed, you must be able to show that the business activities are registered with HM Revenue and Customs

5/ You must be able to put forward participants who work for the company based within the Leeds City Region and are aged 18 years or over.

6/ Your business / organisation must operate in the following sectors - Creative and Digital, Finance and Business, Hospitality and Tourism, Low Carbon and Construction, Manufacturing and Engineering, Retail*, Health and Social Care* or Medical Technology. 

You must not be an employer in the following sectors/areas: Hair and Beauty, Voluntary Sector, Public Sector including NHS and Hospitals. Retail and Health and Social Care organisations can be considered as long as the training is not specific to that sector.

7/ You must contribute 60% of the total cost of the training.  This will be invoiced to you by M Training & Consultancy Ltd and must be paid at least one week prior to the course.


Delegate Eligibility

For each individual attending the course (Delegates) they must be:

- 18 years old or over

- Employed by and work for a company based in the Leeds City Regions?

- Have the right to work in the UK and is not an asylum seeker

- Not be currently undertaking an Apprenticeship

- Must be able to show an EU member passport and a copy of  latest payslip (can be redacted) showing your NI number

Private Courses

You can apply for 40% ESF Funding for all of the following private courses

  • Leadership / Management Courses
  • Digital Marketing Courses 
  • Social Media Courses
  • Search Engine Optimisation Courses
  • Project Management Courses

M Training require a minimum of 3 delegates are booked onto a private course where you are applying for the ESF funding.

The course content can be adapted to meet your specific requirements within these subject areas.

How to apply

If you have read the eligibility checklist and you are interested in the 40% funding available for training here's how you can apply.

1/ Contact M Training providing details of the course you want

2/ We will send you 2 forms to complete to confirm your eligibility (total completion time: 7-10 minutes)

3/ Post the form back to us with proof of trading:

Acceptable Proof of Trading are:
Private Limited company - Companies House Print Out
Voluntary / Community Sector / Not for Profit - Print out from Charities Commission
Self-Employed / Sole Trader / Partnership - Submitted HMRC ‘SA302’ self-assessment tax declaration or confirmation letter from HMRC evidencing VAT registration or registration for Companies House, or business bank statement.

4/ We will confirm your place on the course

5/ On the day of the course all delegates must bring along a proof of ID (Passport) & latest payslip (can be redacted) showing your NI number (Scans can be emailed in advance if preferred).

The Skills Service

The Skills Service is managed by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges and funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).

The Skills Service offers a unique package of training and support for SMEs in the Leeds City Region.

Planning: Free Skills Plan session for SMEs to plan employee training and stay ahead of industry trends.

Funding: 40% funding from the European Social Fund towards training your workforce (eligible businesses only*).

Training: Training and education opportunities across the region.

*SMEs in the Leeds City Region, participants must be in employment and 18+. Full eligibility at The Skills Service is managed by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges and funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
